Lynx Space Academy UK Launch (With Buzz Aldrin, Daisy Lowe, George Lamb and Dynamo)

article-0-16D34F00000005DC-704_634x402

Earlier on this week, I received an omninous invitation from Lynx to attend an event in Wimbledon Studios where there would be “…an announcement from a living legend.”

Intrigued by this I braved the rush-hour tube ride on the Northern line to the depths of South London to be greeted by an Astronaut who led us to the launch of the Lynx Space Academy.

On arrival you could have mistaken the launch for an episode of Battlestar Gallactica. There were girls in 70’s Sci-Fi costumes, Aliens who looked like Danny Dyer, space candy and a cloakroom that looked like a lunar landing module. Entertainment was provided by Dynamo who flirted with the crowd through the medium of magic. George Lamb was master of ceremonies whilst Daisy Lowe was the celebrity DJ.

After a two hour countdown and copious amount of beverages, Buzz Aldrin appeared on a giant screen to tell the world that Lynx are running a worldwide competition to be one of 22 people to get a free ride into Space aboard the Lynx SXC. Then the shuttle was revealed in all it’s glory, and the party continued into the small hours.

Star Trek: Into Darkness Official Teaser Trailer

Finally the first glimpse of the follow up to JJ Abram’s epic Star Trek movie is here!

The teaser trailer features a voice over from the villain played by Benedict Cumberbatch, who starred in the BBC series Sherlock, which suggests he has some beef with the federation. Looks like much of the action will be taking place on earth this time, with buildings being destroyed and the Enterprise under water.

Clearly a much darker movie this time round, the trailer also features what many people have speculated is a funeral service and Uhura crying in the arms of Scotty.

Will something happen to Spock? Why is the Villain so angry? What makes Kirk and McCoy jump off a cliff? Will Kirk get with the blonde girl?

All these questions will be driving us mad until 17th of May 2013. In the meantime watch the trailer below.

Tom OXley: Face to Face: The Moving portrait exhibition (With Delilah, Wretch 32 and Azealia Banks etc)

Last Thursday we went to see the 3 minute moving portrait exhibition from Tom Oxley entitled ‘Face to Face,’ and consume a generous amount of tequila supplied by Patron.

Projected onto the walls of the LondoNewcastle gallery on Redchurch gallery in Shoreditch, are a series of 3 minute video portraits of musicans, including Professor Green, Delilah and Azealia Banks among others. A bit like Andy Warhols five minute portraits of the seventies, only these are accompanied by specific tracks that the musician listened to during the take.

In summary, looks great with the lights off, not so great with them on.

The exhibition runs until the 28th of October at Londonnewcastle, for more info click here.

Rumfest 2012 Recap

Last week Rumfest hit the Excel centre in east london, and responsible adults that we are we thought what better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than to ‘Sample’ fine rums from around the world. I mean what could go wrong?

Here’s what went down:

12pm: Rumfest opens to the public….

2pm: We arrive… it is a Sunday our day of rest after all.

2:20pm We’ve been inside for twenty minutes and it’s like a party in full swing, we’re already getting that warm on the inside feeling that neat Rum and crackers provide, and people are dancing to the sound of Soca music.

3pm: We decide that maybe it’s a good idea to grab lunch, noticing that some of the people around us are falling asleep in their chairs as we eat.

3:30pm “Thank God for that pie and mash!” We head back in…

4pm: “How much for a bottle of 8 year old Ron Fortuna Nigaraguaguann please?”

4:30pm: Half an hour left… “Quick let’s see if anyone’s giving out free samples!”

5pm: “Whadya mean it’s finished?”

And there you have it, thank you Rumfest, it truly was a carnival for people in denial of winter. Next year we’re going for both days!
