Sounds of 2012 : Frank Ocean

Frank Ocean has come 2nd in the BBC Sound of 2012. Christopher Francis Ocean is set to finally establish himself as a solo artist of Worldwide acclaim in 2012. The 24 year-old OFWGKTA member moved from Louisianna to Los Angeles following hurricane Katrina to work on his first album, and legally changed his name from Christopher “”Lonny”” Breaux shortly after. In L.A. the singer soon hooked up with the Odd Future collective and began work writing for the likes of Brandy, John Legend and most recently Beyonce on I Miss You. Ocean was also called up to work on two tracks from Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Watch The Throne. Collaborations aside, it was Ocean’s solo work which garnered most praise. Signed to Def Jam in 2009, Ocean delivered his debut mixtape nostalgia,ULTRA earlier this year, winning fans on both side of the Atlantic, including Zane Lowe, who debuted tracks from the release on Radio 1 in November.

I Like It A Lot : Skrillex

Skrillex has come 4th in the BBC Sound of 2012 countdown. Los Angeles born Skrillex (aka Sonny Moore) already has an impressive track record for a 23-year-old. Though he’d been dabbling with making electronic music since his early teens, Aphex Twin and The Prodigy were his early influences. He first came to public attention as the singer for post-hardcore band Screamo. I wouldn’t try to categorize his genre but to let you know what melodic dubstep is whats his amazing music sounds to me. We’re going to be hearing a lot from the Grammy nominated producer in this year as Machine Gun Kelly has already jumped on a track with the prodigy. Press play below and listen to some awesome sounds.

He will be performing the 12th February 2012 at Manchester Academy 1 in Manchester, UK

Props to BBC

I Like it a lot : StooShe

All three members Karis, Courtney and Alex write their own material and have been whipping up a bit of a storm with their infectiously catchy, sweary and distinctly British urban pop. A support slot on a tour with N-Dubz and a free download entitled The Stoosh Tape generated a lot of buzz and before long the trio were paired with producer Futurecut who has been working with Wretch 32, Lily Allen, Professor Green and Plan B to name a few. The music video for their first single Betty Woz Gone is based on a true story, a sorry tale of a young mother more interested in a good time than looking after her kids, especially loved the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air part. Expect to hear much more of these young ladies who are just doper than cream, Press Play Below to watch the lyric video of Betty Woz Gone by the very talented Stooshe.
